If you have been waiting for an affordable Touch Screen eBook Reader the time has come. The Elonex brings full colour touch-screen technology to the eBook Reader market at a price touted to just fall below the £100 threshold. We aren’t believing this just yet though, since at the time of writing the reader was only available on pre-order for a still cheap £139. It has been a long wait but at last technology has caught up with what people want from their hand-held gadgets. It seems full colour and tactile touch-screens are what we have become accostomed too and what we now demand, but not at a hefty price.
Now I have to say personally I am a fan of e-ink displays for eBook Readers, such as that used in the Kindle and beautiful Bookeen Cybook Opus. But that’s because I am a big fan of long battery life since I read away from the home a lot. But if you don’t mind a mere eight hour battery life (and that will surely keep you reading throught the daily commute) then the new Elonex TFT eBook Reader might be more your cup of tea.
This one plays to those that want a mini iPad. With its larger 7″ back-lit LCD screen and full colour display, it certainly looks more like that than a traditional e-Reader. But then again this is not just an e-Book reader. It is also a fully functional and rather large but good looking mp3 player. You can listen to audio books and watch video files on this thing.
It is, I guess an eBook reader for the iPad craving market, but at a much more realistic price. And if it brings eBooks to the masses without the need to squint at an iPhone the Elonex can’t be such a bad thing!
Of course you get the all important wireless connectivity so can download books wirelessly to the device. Any more info though will have to wait till we can get our grubby paws on the Elonex touch-screen e-Book reader.
